"Mental illness is a conversation we as a nation need to continue to have and show supportive action behind it. We do not need to point fingers at those who need help, but instead be an extensive hand of support" - Jilissa Ricayla Gregory 2021 Notable Quotable
This year, we wanted to see how well applicants could think outside the stigma and envision steps to a better future. We also wanted our applicants to express the value of study.
So we asked them to imagine steps doctors could take to end mental-illness related stigma and to share their thoughts on why the study of history is important.
We had wonderful applicants from around the United States and across three continents. They all offered very good ideas with thought-provoking essays that expanded our perspectives and lead us to reflect.
As a result, four applicants were honored as MSM Bright Suns Scholars and two received Honorable Mention awards.
The winners had the most compelling and socially conscious answers that best demonstrated anti-stigma as related to mental illness and the value of study to social change.
